New Delhi: A key security agency report has surfaced on Friday following a serious security lapse during PM Narendra Modi's visit to Punjab. The report said that before PM Modi's visit to Ferozepur in Punjab, security agencies had warned the state police department that PM Modi was under a bigger threat from several terror outfits. The report also highlighted the apprehension of protests by farmers' organisations in the state during PM Modi's visit.
The recent report had raised fears of a threat to PM Modi from Indian Mujahideen, Ex-Student Islamic Movement of India, Kashmiri and Pakistani based terror outfits Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, Harkat-ul-Jihad e Islami, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, and Hizbul Mujahideen as well as Sikh terrorists based in Pakistan.
Security officials had also mentioned incidents like improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Ferozepur and adjoining district in September and recovery of tiffin bomb in a village in Ferozepur. In addition, officials of security agencies had also mentioned the smuggling of explosives from Pakistan. The report further stated that PM Modi is also under threat from left-wing extremists and Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadres and their allies. The question arises as to why the state police did not take any concrete steps even after the security agencies had already informed the Punjab Police about all the threats.
