A heartbreaking incident has come to spotlight in Pune city of Maharashtra, where a five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a hotel security guard. The girl is undergoing treatment at a hospital, while the accused has been arrested. According to police, a couple from West Bengal is living in a labour camp. The girl was alone at home on Saturday morning. The accused took her to the parking lot of a car showroom on Airport Road and raped her there. The girl was in a state of panic when the mother came home in the afternoon from work. After the incident came to light, her father registered an FIR. Based on a complaint from the girl’s father, police have arrested the accused Karan Dilip Kumar Goswami (20), a resident of Viman Nagar. Police have registered a case against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The POCSO Act, 2012 is a comprehensive law to provide for the protection of children from the offences of sexual assault, sexual harassment and pornography while safeguarding the interests of the child at every stage of the judicial process by incorporating child-friendly mechanisms for reporting, recording of evidence, investigation and speedy trial of offences through designated Special Courts.
