Sembcorp Teams Up for Green Hydrogen Export from India to Japan

Sembcorp, along with partners Sojitz Corp and Kyushu Electric Power Co, are set to embark on a venture exporting eco-friendly hydrogen from India to Japan.

The agreement, announced by Sembcorp Green Hydrogen Pte Ltd, aims to explore opportunities in producing green ammonia within India and shipping it to the Japanese market. This partnership anticipates the construction of multiple green ammonia facilities as part of the initiative.

Pending finalization of supply agreements and investment decisions, Sembcorp will take the lead in developing the green ammonia project. Sojitz and Kyushu Electric will utilize their expertise in energy trading and distribution to manage the transportation of green ammonia to Japan and secure local buyers.

Should the project materialize, it will contribute significantly to Japan's objective of importing three million tonnes of green ammonia by 2030. The nation's demand for this eco-friendly fuel is projected to surge to 30 million tonnes by 2050.
