Sensex gains 231-pts Nifty Tops 17200, See top stocks today

After three consecutive sessions of decline, the Indian equities benchmark indexes ended the day higher in a see-saw trading. During today's session, the domestic indices bounced between gains and losses before concluding in the green.

The BSE Sensex finished 231 points higher, or 0.40 percent, at 57,593, while the broader NSE Nifty finished 69 points higher, or 0.40 percent, at 17,222. Mid- and small-cap stocks, on the other hand, finished down, with the Nifty Midcap 100 index down 0.18 percent and small-cap down 0.73 percent.

The NSE's 15 sector indicators all finished in the green. Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Bank both beat the index, climbing 1.22 percent and 0.85 percent, respectively, to surpass the index. The highest Nifty gainer was Bharti Airtel, which rose 3.90 percent to RS 737. Otehr gainers included Coal India, Axis Bank, Eicher Motors, and ICICI Bank. The biggest gainers on the Sensex were Airtel, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, ITC, SBI, and IndusInd Bank.

Crude oil prices fell today as fears of weak demand were stoked by a coronavirus shutdown. Brent sank USD 4.35 to USD 116.33 as a result of the spread of curbs in the world's largest oil importer, while U.S. crude fell USD 4.5, or 4 percent, to USD 109.38.
