Sensex, Nifty Falls, Stocks to buy today

 Indian share market benchmarks on Tuesday extended their decline for the second consecutive session as investors awaited the retail inflation data, scheduled to be released later in the day. 

The NSE Nifty dropped 158 points or 0.97 percent to conclude at 16,058 while the 30-share BSE Sensex dropped 509 points or 0.94 percent to close at 53,887. The Nifty Midcap 100 down 0.45%, and small-cap shares fell 0.42 percent.

The NSE's 14 sector indicators all finished in the red. The NSE platform underperformed the sub-indices Nifty Auto, Nifty IT, Nifty Metal, and Nifty FMCG, which saw declines of up to 1.18 percent, 1.16 percent, 1.22 percent, and 1.14 percent, respectively.

The highest Nifty loser in terms of individual stocks was Eicher Motors, whose share price fell by 3.34 percent to Rs. 2,945.15. Other laggards included Hindalco, Infosys, BPCL, and Grasim Industries.  1,481 shares rose and 1,816 fell on the BSE, resulting in a negative market breadth overall.

With their shares falling as much as 2.33 percent, Infosys, Nestle India, HCL Tech, PowerGrid, Hindustan Unilever, M&M, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Asian Paints, IndusInd Bank, Titan, UltraTech Cement, and ICICI Bank were among the biggest losers on the 30-share BSE index.
