Sensex, Nifty open lower; Nifty Bank declines 700 Points

Indian share markets opened lower on with the  BSE Sensex falling 407 points lower at 49615 while the NSE Nifty 50 index slipped 104 points at 14,762 at around 9.50 am.  

Except for IT and metal, all the Nifty sectoral indices traded in the lower circuit, with most weakness in the financials and auto stocks. The Nifty Metal index has opened with gains of 0.4 percent while the Nifty I.T. index has opened 0.2 percent higher. The Nifty Bank index has opened with losses of over 200 points or 0.6 percent while the PSU Bank index is down 0.5 percent, during the morning session.

The Nifty Media index is the biggest sectoral laggard, opening 1.3 percent lower as the Maharashtra government ordered the shutting down of malls, multiplexes and restaurants (open only for home delivery) until April 30 in view of the rising COVID19 cases.

Infosys is  the top Nifty gainer followed by Wipro, Britannia, HCL Tech and  Shree  cement, while losers include Bajaj Finance, IndusInd Bank, Axis Bank, SBI and HDFC
