Seven US lawmakers write to Mike Pompeo urging him to raise the issue of farmers’ protest in India with his Indian counterpart. A group of seven influential US lawmakers, including Indian-American Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, have written to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, on farmers’ protest in India. India has called the remarks by foreign leaders and politicians on protests by farmers as “ill-informed” and “unwarranted”, asserting that the matter pertains to the internal affairs of India which is a democratic country. Earlier this month, External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said, "We have seen some ill-informed comments relating to farmers in India. Such comments are unwarranted, especially when pertaining to the internal affairs of a democratic country." Meanwhile, the Centre on Thursday wrote back saying it is ready to take up whatever issues the unions want to discuss in addition to those dealt with in previous rounds. Emphasising that the government is ready for talks when the unions take a call, the Centre urged them to send details so that discussion on them could take place.
