Shakib Al Hasan back in Bangladesh squad for Afghanistan ODIs

DHAKA: Shakib Al Hasan, a star all-rounder for Bangladesh, was re-inducted into the ODI squad on Saturday for the forthcoming home series against Afghanistan, which will start on July 5.

Due to a finger injury received during the ODI series against Ireland at Chelmsford in May, Shakib was unable to play in the lone Test against Afghanistan, which Bangladesh won by a score of 546 runs.

Under Tamim Iqbal's direction, bowler Taskin Ahmed, who missed the ODIs against Ireland due to a side strain, has also been included for the ODI series along with Mohammad Naim and Afif Hossain. To make room for the trio of Naim, Hossain, and Taskin, Yasir Ali, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury, and Rony Talukdar have been benched for the series against Afghanistan.

Naim scored 932 runs in 16 matches at an average of 71.69, dominating the Dhaka Premier League, the nation's list A event, and opening the door for his two-year absence from the ODI team.

However, Afif led Bangladesh A in two of three four-day matches against West Indies A while scoring 550 runs at an average of 55 in 15 games. The Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium will host all three of Bangladesh's daytime ODI matches against Afghanistan on July 5, 8, and 11. On July 14 and 16, there will be two Twenty20 Internationals between the two teams in Sylhet.

Tamim Iqbal (captain), Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Towhid Hridoy, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain Chowdhury, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam, Afif Hossain Dhrubo, and Naim Sheikh are the members of the Bangladesh The Bangladesh-Afghanistan one-day international series is scheduled to begin on July 5 in Chattogram and conclude on July 11 in Chattogram.
