Shinde proves majority in Maharashtra House

Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, demonstrated his government's majority on the assembly floor on Monday by easily winning the trust vote and wrapping up the improbable mutiny that started precisely three weeks ago and resulted in the overthrow of the previous administration.

The Shiv Sena on Tuesday referred to Eknath Shinde's victory in the Vote of Confidence as a "stolen majority" and said that it was "not the belief of the people" of the state, a day after he had won it in the Maharashtra Assembly.

"99 MLAs voted against the BJP-backed Shinde group during the floor test, while 164 supported it. At the time of the majority test, a few NCP and Congress MLAs were not present. It is remarkable that senior ministers Vijay Wadettiwar and Ashok Chavan were unable to attend the session.

Devendra Fadnavis expressed gratitude to the unseen powers responsible for the majority of the tests' success. He spoke about Shinde as a strong, admirable leader, but what is the immovable object preventing Fadnavis from taking the oath of office as chief minister?" Saamna, a spokesman for the Shiv Sena, said in its  editorial on Tuesday.
