Shocking! Elderly man beaten to death for intervening in drunken brawl

VARANASI: In a shocking incident a 70-year-old man in Varanasi's Jaiprakash Nagar locality intervened in a drunken fight outside his home and was battered to death.

According to Varanasi Police Commissioner A. Satish Ganesh, the incident took place on Wednesday night at about 11.30 p.m. when the victim, Pashupati Singh, and his son Rajendra Singh, who runs a local beer shop, came out of the house to break up a fight between two groups of locality residents who were both intoxicated.

As soon as Rajendra intervened, both groups started attacking him, turning the situation into an unpleasant one. Pashupati saw his son being attacked and immediately rushed to rescue him. Pashupati was struck on the head with a stick by one of the intoxicated gang members. The elderly guy passed away instantly, and the criminals escaped, leaving Rajendra injured.

When the father and son arrived at the hospital, the doctors declared Pashupati dead and treated Rajendra for several wounds. According to the Police Commissioner, the incident was being looked into, and the suspect will be taken into custody shortly.
