In 1960, the Film and Television Institute was established in Pune. In 1964, he completed his diploma in acting and then started looking for work in films. Asrani returned to Mumbai after completing his diploma from Pune. He got small roles in films, but he got recognition for the first time from a song in the film Seema. When his family members in Gurdaspur saw him in a ong, they came straight to Mumbai and took Asrani back with him.
