The police arrested Lakhwinder Singh alias Lucky Dhillon, the mastermind of crores of paddy seed scam in Punjab. The number of people arrested in this scam has increased to three. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) described Lucky as a special man of Cooperative Minister Sukhwinder Singh Randhawa and close to the Congress leaders of the state. SAD had alleged that at the behest of Randhawa, the state police is saving Lucky Dhillon and despite the registration of FIR, he is not being arrested. Lucky owns Karnal Agri Seeds in Dera Baba Nanak based in Batala. He has been arrested by the state-level SIT, which was formed a day earlier by DGP Dinkar Gupta on Tuesday. DGP said that Lucky had unauthorized procurement of PR-128 and PR-129 varieties of paddy seeds from farmers whom the PAU had given to grow as trials. He supplied the seeds to Brar Seeds of Ludhiana, owned by Harvinder Singh aka Kaka Brar. He was the first person arrested in this scam. After this, the second accused Baljinder Singh was arrested on Tuesday. DGP said that the SIT has taken both the accused to two days remand by presenting them in court on Wednesday. They will be questioned about the people involved in the scam. Baljinder Singh is also a member of the Farmers Association formed by the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). This association informs farmers about new seeds and techniques. The PAU had given new varieties of paddy seeds last year to Baljinder for testing. Baljinder produced much more than those seeds and sold these seeds in the market without any rights. It was illegal to sell them.
