Smriti Irani attacks opposition, says, 'Congress hates every tea-drinking Gujarati'

Rajkot: Union minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader Smriti Irani has attacked former Congress president Rahul Gandhi for his statement on the wages of tea workers in Assam. Smriti said that Congress used to hate PM Modi, but now she teases every Gujarati who drinks tea.

Addressing a rally for the civic elections in Rajkot city, he once again referred to Gandhi's statement that the Congress would increase the wages of tea workers in Assam by paying more than Gujarat's planters. Irani further said, 'A Congress leader who lost from Amethi Lok Sabha seat in 2019 had said in a public meeting in Assam that he would withdraw money from the pockets of small tea traders and shopkeepers of Gujarat.'

The Union Minister said, 'His disgust towards PM Narendra Modi is such that the Congress, which used to hate only one tea seller (PM Modi), now teases every Gujarati who drinks tea'. Irani also said, 'Don't make the mistake of voting for a party that has tried to stop the development of Gujarat when it comes to power at the Center.'
