Some Common Habits That Can Damage Our Kidneys

The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs, located against the back muscles in the upper abdominal cavity just below the rib cage, one on each side of the spine. The kidneys detoxify the blood and aid the body in filtering out waste products through urine. It's hard to notice when we do our kidneys harm. Even if 80% damaged, kidneys can still do their job, and so we rarely realize they're struggling.

Here's a helpful list of habits you should definitely avoid:

1) Excess or regular intake of alcohol  The kidneys help remove toxic substances from our bodies. So when you drink excess alcohol, the kidneys have to work extra hard to get rid of the alcohol.

2) Eating junk Eating unhealthy foods makes the kidney work harder than it usually does. Here are foods that are food for your kidney.

3) Smoking Smoking 2 cigarettes a day is enough to double the number of endothelial cells (the cells that line our blood vessel walls) present in your bloodstream. This is a sign of arterial damage.

4) Disrupted Sleep  Kidney tissues get renewed during the night while we're sleeping, so when we can't sleep without constant interruptions, our kidneys suffer direct damage.

5) High Salt Consumption  Regularly eating too much salt can also cause huge damage to your kidneys as well as other health problems. The kidneys metabolize 95 percent of the sodium consumed through food.
