SEOUL: The foreign ministry in Seoul said on Friday that South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin will visit Japan for three days the following week to discuss bilateral relations and North Korea. Under the current South Korean government headed by President Yoon Suk-yeol, Park's visit to the neighbouring nation from Monday to Wednesday will mark the first by a foreign minister to that nation. According to the ministry, Park will meet with Yoshimasa Hayashi, the foreign minister of Japan, to "address matters of mutual concern, including the Korean Peninsula issue and relations between Korea and Japan." Park will also offer his condolences for the recent passing of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the ministry added. The public information and cultural centre of the Japanese embassy in Seoul was where the foreign minister paid tribute to the late Abe on Monday. Three days after Abe was shot and killed while giving an election campaign address, Park expressed his condolences and grief for his family. Earlier this week, the minister stated that the Yoon administration would continue to make attempts to reach a "fair resolution" to outstanding issues between Seoul and Tokyo through a variety of related initiatives, including his visit to Japan "at a mutually suitable moment."
