Lucknow: Senior Samajwadi Party leader and former minister in the Akhilesh Yadav government, Azam Khan, and his son Abdullah Azam have been convicted in another criminal case. Moradabad's MP-MLA court has found Azam Khan guilty in the case of the road blockade. The court convicted them in a 2008 case. In Moradabad, many of his supporters, including Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam, staged a sit-in protest against the Chhajlat police station against the search of the vehicle. During this, the SP workers created a ruckus by blocking the road. In this case, the police had registered a case against 9 people including SP leader Azam Khan. All of them were accused of obstructing government work. On the other hand, the apex court on Monday refused to consider a PIL seeking to declare the by-election for the Rampur Sadar Assembly seat invalid. In this PIL, it was urged to declare the by-election invalid on the ground that many voters were prevented from casting their votes. The seat fell vacant after SP leader Azam Khan was disqualified from the assembly following his conviction in a criminal case. On this, the court of Chief Justice (CJI) DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha, and Justice JB Pardiwala has said, 'How can you challenge the election by filing a writ petition? Please file an election petition.' Along with this, the court said that now the results have also been declared and no petition other than the election petition can be considered. The PIL was filed by advocate Suleman Mohd Khan in his individual capacity. The court had said, 'No, we are not considering it.' After this, the lawyer withdrew the PIL.
