DHAKA: Former Indian all-rounder Sridharan Sriram has been named the national team's coach for the 2017 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates and the T20 World Cup in Australia by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). As per reports in The Daily Star, a BCB director confirmed Sriram's selection and said, "Yes, we have chosen Sriram up until the World Cup." "The new coach will be visible from the Asia Cup onwards," the team said. "We are moving forward with a fresh perspective. Many may argue that there isn't much left for the Asia Cup, but given that the T20 World Cup is our primary goal, a new coach who isn't hired from the Asia Cup won't have time to adjust. But as I already stated, the T20 World Cup is our top priority," he continued. Between 2000 and 2004, Sriram played eight ODIs for India. He also long worked as Australia's assistant and spin-bowling coach. In 2016, Sriram was given the duty of serving as a spin bowling coach by the late Australian coach Darren Lehmann. The 46-year-old recently left that position to concentrate on his role with Royal Challengers Bangalore of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, the BCB official added that South African Russell Domingo would remain in control of the Test team. Domingo will continue to lead the Test team as of right now because a match against India is scheduled for a test in November.
