Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha to share India A captaincy against South Africa A

New Delhi: Two new captains have been appointed in the India A team for the two unofficial Test (four-day) series against South Africa-A starting on September 9. The partnership is awarded to young batsman Shubman Gill and veteran wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha. Shubman Gill is part of the India-A team in the ongoing ODI series against Africa-A, while Saha is in the Indian team playing the Test series on the West Indies tour. Saha, however, did not get a place in the final-11.

The Senior Selection Committee held a meeting for the India-A team selection on Sunday at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. The first four-day match of the series will be played at Thiruvananthapuram from September 9, in which Gill will lead India-A. The second match will be held in Mysore from 17 September, with Saha as captain. Chief selector MSK Prasad said that in view of the final between India Red and India Green in the Duleep Trophy, the committee has selected two different teams against South Africa-A.

The team is as follows. For the first Test - Shubman Gill (captain), Rituraj Gaikwad, Anmolpreet Singh, Ricky Bhui, Ankit Bawne, KS Bharat (wicketkeeper), K Gautam, Shahbaz Nadeem, Shardul Thakur, Muhammad Siraj, Tushar Deshpande, Shivam Dubey, Vijay Shankar.

For the second Test - Priyank Panchal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shubman Gill, Anmolpreet Singh, Karun Nair, Wriddhiman Saha (captain and wicketkeeper), K Gautam, Kuldeep Yadav, Shahbaz Nadeem, Vijay Shankar, Shivam Dubey, Umesh Yadav, Muhammad Siraj, Avesh Khan.
