There has been a decline in sugar production in the country. In the current marketing year until December 15, the country's sugar production has fallen by 35 percent to 4.58 million tonnes. The mills in Uttar Pradesh, the country's largest sugar producing state, have produced 2.12 million tonnes of sugar as of December 15, up from 1.89 million tonnes a year earlier.
