Support for presidential candidates in South Korea is tied at 35 percent.

SEOUL: According to a poll released on Thursday, Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's presidential contender, is tied with Yoon Seok-youl, the main opposition People Power Party's presidential nominee, with 35 percent of the vote.

A poll of 1,007 candidates conducted by Embrain Public, Kstat Research, Korea Research, and Hankook Research from Monday to Wednesday, Lee's support remained constant from two weeks earlier, but Yoon gained one percentage point.

According to sources, Ahn Cheol-soo of the minor opposition People's Party received 9 percent of the vote, down one percentage point from two weeks previous.  Sim Sang-jeung of the minor progressive Justice Party doubled his vote by two percentage points to 4 percent.

Responding to the question as to which candidate was most likely to win, it said, Yoon received 43 percent of the vote, while Lee received 34 percent.  Similarly, President Moon Jae-work in's performance, 43 percent, while 51 percent said he did a bad job. According to the poll, 45 percent believe an opposition candidate must win the March 9 election, while 42 percent believe a candidate from the ruling party should win.
