Supreme Court Refuses To Lift Stay On Release of Amitabh Bachchan's Jhund

Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan's new film Jhund is coming. There has been a dispute about this film for a long time. The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to lift the ban on the screening of this film. The appeal filed against the order of the Telangana High Court has been dismissed. The High Court had stayed the screening of the film over the copyright dispute, but now that appeal has been dismissed.

According to the information received, a bench of Chief Justice SA Bobde, Justice AS Bopanna and Justice V Ramasubramanian dismissed the appeal of Super Cassettes Industries (T Series) against the High Court's order of 19 October last. Let us also tell you that the High Court had expressly refused to interfere with the order of the lower court to ban the screening of this film. The bench said in its order, "Special permission petitions are being rejected. As a result, pending applications in this case, if any, should be considered disposed of. ''

The film is based on the life of Vijay Bursay, the founder of the NGO Slum Soccer and was to be screened this month on the OTT platform of Amazon Prime. Earlier, the film was scheduled to release in May but it could not be released due to the covid-19 epidemic. Nandi Chinni Kumar, a short film producer based in Hyderabad, has accused the filmmakers of alleged copyright infringement. On the other hand, the other side has categorically denied this.

When the matter was heard, the bench commented and said that it is an interesting matter and that it will direct that its hearing be completed within six months. After that, the lawyer appearing on behalf of the filmmaker said, "In six months this film will go waste and they are ready to pay money to this person." Apart from this, he said that 'an amount of Rs. 1.3 crore was agreed between the parties concerned'. Simultaneously, on behalf of Kumar, senior advocate PS Narasimha said, 'The court can give directions to settle the matter pending in the lower court within six months'.
