New Delhi: The apex court has rejected the plea seeking a stay on the slogan of "Jai Shri Ram" in Bengal elections and action to register an FIR against the leaders of the party that raised such slogans. The petition also demanded an order to register an FIR named against BJP leader Amit Shah and Suvendu Adhikari. It was said in the petition that in the election of West Bengal, veteran BJP leaders are raising slogans of "Jai Shri Ram" in election meetings and rallies. This is a violation of the Model Code of Conduct and the Representation of the People Act, 1951. So legal action should be taken against them by filing an FIR. In this petition, the Election Commission's order to hold West Bengal elections in eight phases was also challenged, which was rejected by the court. The CJI questioned the petitioner that 'why did you not go to the High Court?' The petitioner's lawyer said that I have brought many other issues, including the peace system of the state, to the court. The CJI said that you first go to the High Court. The petitioner argued that in the 1996 Mahendra Singh Gill case, the apex court has said in its judgment that after the notification of the election, the High Court cannot hear the election petition. The CJI said that the High Court has this right.
