Supreme Court to hear 183 encounters in UP, including Atiq-Ashraf murder case

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear on April 24 the demand for investigation into the murder of mafia members Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf and 183 encounters in Uttar Pradesh since 2017. Advocate Vishal Tiwari has filed this petition in the apex court and also demanded the formation of a committee under the supervision of a former Supreme Court judge.

Let us tell you that on Saturday (April 15), former Samajwadi Party (SP) MP and gangster Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in police custody. He was murdered when he was returning after getting his routine health checkup done during police custody at 10.30 p.m. At the time of their bite to the media, three assailants disguised as journalists opened fire on them, due to which both mafia brothers died on the spot.

This attack on him took place when Asad, the son of Atiq, the main accused in the Umesh Pal murder case, and shooter Ghulam, died in a police encounter with the UP STF a day earlier. On February 24, Asad and his associates shot and killed Umesh Pal, the main witness in the BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case. In this incident, two policemen posted under Umesh Pal's security lost their lives.
