SC takes suo motu cognizance of 'Kanwar Yatra,' CM Yogi has already given permission

Lucknow: The apex court has taken cognizance (Supreme Court suo motu) in the case of allowing Kanwar yatra in Uttar Pradesh. A bench of Justice Fali Nariman took suo motu cognizance of the matter and sent a notice to the UP government. The case will be heard in the apex court on July 16.

In fact, CM Yogi Adityanath has allowed the Kanwar yatra to be taken out in UP. However, he has given a clear order that all corona guidelines should be followed during the traditional Kanwar yatra. CM Yogi said the Kanwar Yatra should be organized keeping in view the future assessments made by experts on corona infection.  CM Yogi Adityanath has ordered that officials discuss with Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttarakhand and issue guidelines on Kanwar yatra. He also said that the mandatory RT-PCR negative report can also be enforced in view of the corona situation.

Last week CM Yogi Adityanath held a meeting with officials to inspect the security and preparedness of the Kanwar yatra. He had asked the officials to talk to the Kanwar associations and ensure that there is no unnecessary rush in the yatra.
