Uttar Pradesh, the state with the highest number of Lok Sabha seats in India, holds an important place in the political world. It is expected that the tradition of rebel becoming 'honorable' is broken. The Supreme Court has given a ruling on Thursday to stop criminalization of politics, due to the domination of Khadi of the Assembly and Lok Sabha of the bigots like Mukhtar Ansari, Brijesh Singh, Atik Ahmed, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Dhananjay Singh, Guddu Pandit, Ajay Sipahi. There has been a deep setback for the participants to go the way. It will be difficult for political parties to adopt such faces under the mathematics of securing a seat at all costs. To prevent criminalization of politics, now parties will also have to show strong will. If we look at the report of the Association for Democratic Reform (ADR), strong evidence of the tradition of rebel candidates in the electoral arena automatically comes out. In the 2017 assembly elections, 143 out of 402 MLAs declared criminal cases against themselves. That means 36 percent of the MLAs were tainted. Among them, there were 107 such MLAs who declared themselves serious criminal cases. For your information, let us tell you that earlier in the 2012 assembly elections, 189 MLAs had declared criminal cases against themselves, out of which 98 cases were registered under serious sections. Eight MLAs admitted to having filed a case against themselves for murder and 34 for attempt to murder. 114 out of 312 BJP, 14 out of 46 SP, five out of 19 of the BSP and one of the seven Congress MLAs and three independent MLAs had declared criminal cases against themselves. In the list of serious criminal cases, 83 of BJP, 11 of SP, four of BSP, one of Congress and three Independent MLAs were included.
