New Delhi: The Supreme Court today heard petitions filed in the Pegasus case. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta has sought some time time to seek directions from the government. The court has posted the matter for hearing on August 16. It has also asked the parties to remain disciplined and avoid debating issues on social media and websites.
As soon as the hearing of the case began, Chief Justice (CJI) NV Ramanna first asked whether the copy of the petitions was given to the Government. The Solicitor General said, "Everyone except one (Yashwant Sinha) has got the copy. They are studying now. Instructions have to be taken from the Government. Give me time till Friday." On this, CJI said, 'We have some problem on Friday. They will be installed on Monday. Whatever petitioners are before us, let us speak before us. Answer our questions. If you want to talk on media or social media, it is a different matter. We expect you not to run parallel procedures. If we ask questions, answer them here. There should be some discipline."
Kapil Sibal and other lawyers agreed to CJI's statement. Kapil Sibal also referred to the California court's action. The Supreme Court will now hear the Pegasus case next on Monday.
