Suraj Singh and N Wangsu win gold in National Wushu Championship

In the 30th National Wushu Championship, Suraj Singh (9.60 points) of the Army defeated Anjul Namdev (9.50) in the men's Changkuan event to clinch the gold. Among the women, Arunachal Pradesh's N Wangsu has secured the first position by defeating Sakshi (8.92) with 9.23 points. Purvi Saini (8.49) finished third.

The competition was launched by The Home Minister of MP, Narottam Mishra. Wushu National Federation President Bhupinder Bajwa was also present on the occasion. Home Minister Narottam Mishra highlighted the need to promote martial arts for women's self-defence. More than 1100 players are participating in the competition.

The players have an opportunity to strengthen their claim of selection in the Indian team for the upcoming Asian Games. Former IPS officer N Tripathi, president of MP Wushu Association, has said that Wushu is called the mother of martial arts. Secretary, MP Wushu Association, Sarika Gupta said that teams have come from a total of 44 units which include Army, Air Force, BSF, ITBP in addition to states and Union Territories.
