Surat SOG Arrests Bangladeshi National with Forged Hindu Identity

Surat: On June 22nd, Surat SOG in Gujarat arrested Minar Hemayat, a Bangladeshi national living under a false Hindu identity, sparking concerns over illegal immigrants using forged documents in India. This incident follows recent revelations by Maharashtra ATS of Bangladeshi nationals arrested for voting in Lok Sabha elections with fake documents.

Minar Hemayat, originally a Bangladeshi Muslim, was apprehended in Surat's Una area. Police seized numerous forged documents under the identity of Shuvo Sunil Das, including Bangladeshi birth certificates, school records, national ID cards, and Indian documents such as a West Bengal school leaving certificate, Aadhar card, residency permit for Qatar, Indian passport, and a house rental agreement.

Hemayat reportedly entered India from Bangladesh through the Satkhira border in West Bengal in 2020. He acquired forged documents in Nadia district, West Bengal, under the governance of Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress party. Using these false identities, he obtained an Indian passport and worked in Doha, Qatar, from 2021 to 2023 before relocating to Surat for construction work.

Earlier, Maharashtra police and ATS had arrested four Bangladeshi nationals in Mumbai for fabricating documents, including fake voter IDs used in Lok Sabha elections. Investigations revealed these individuals obtained fake passports from Gujarat to secure employment abroad, with some traveling to Saudi Arabia using forged Indian documents. These incidents underscore the broader challenges of illegal immigration and document forgery in India.

The arrests and ongoing investigations across states emphasize the urgent need for stringent measures to combat illegal immigration and document fraud. Such activities pose significant risks to national security and threaten the integrity of India's legal and electoral systems.
