Match between Syria and Iran canceled

Syria has canceled its friendly football match with Iran. Both teams had to play this match to strengthen their preparations for the group step of the World Cup qualifier. According to media reports, the Iran Football Federation had already announced that it would host Syria in Tehran for a friendly match on September 3.

"We are sorry because we cannot play with Iran, but we are going to meet Iran for a friendly match as per the schedule," reports quoted the head coach of the Syrian national football team, Nabil Maaloul. Iran's national football team is to play against Uzbekistan on September 7 in Tashkent. According to Iran Football Federation spokesman Aamir Mehdi Alvi, the match is going to be according to the scheduled schedule.

"The Asian qualifying match of the World Cup 2022 has been postponed, but our plan will go according to the schedule," Alvi said. Iran's team is third in Group-C after Iraq and Bahrain and they must win four matches before the competition.
