Kabul: The Taliban has been issuing absurd decrees ever since it captured Afghanistan. In the same vein, the Taliban has now banned the 2021 telecast of IPL in Afghanistan. Not only that, the Taliban have even called IPL anti-Islam. In fact, the Taliban say the ban has been imposed because anti-Islam content can be transmitted during IPL.
The Taliban has banned most of the entertainment equipment in Afghanistan. It also includes several sports-related channels. They have already banned women from playing. Former Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) media manager and journalist M Ibrahim Momand confirmed this through a tweet. He wrote that the telecast of IPL 2021 has been banned in Afghanistan. The decree was issued by the Taliban because it feels that anti-Islamic content may be circulated during the IPL.
Earlier, the Taliban regime has banned women from playing cricket and any other kind of sport in Afghanistan. Cricket Australia has decided to cancel the proposed Test match against Afghanistan. The Test match was scheduled to begin on November 27. However, ACB had urged Cricket Australia not to cancel the match.
