Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin extends lockdown by a week

Though the new infections of Covid-19 are declining in the state, India continues to record the most number of daily cases in the world. India accounts for one in every three new infections worldwide.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on June 5 extended the lockdown for one more week with some relaxations. It will be in force till June 14, as per the state government press release. The government has allowed stand-alone retail provision, veggies and meat shops to function between 6 am and 5 pm. Wholesale trade alone will be permitted in fish markets and slaughterhouses.

Government offices will resume work with 30 percent staff attending office. This includes Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Karur, Namakkal, Tanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai.

Covid Round Up: Tamil Nadu reported 22,651 new infections, followed by Kerala (16,229) and Karnataka (16,068). Tamil Nadu recorded 463 new casualties on the day, followed by Karnataka (364) and Maharashtra (289).

India recorded 1,13,261 new COVID-19 cases and 2,059 new deaths till 9.40 p.m. on June 4. The country has so far reported a total of 2,86,86,764 cases and 3,42,790 deaths.
