Tamil Nadu: Customs Confiscates Gold Bar Worth Rs 8.90 Lakh at Trichy Airport

CHENNAI: Authorities at Tiruchirapalli (Trichy) airport have reported the seizure of a gold bar by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU). Customs officials stated that acting on intelligence input, the AIU at Trichy Airport intercepted a 149-gram gold bar of 24-karat purity, valued at Rs. 8.90 lakh.

According to official sources, the gold bar had been meticulously concealed within two Nutella jars. The passenger carrying these jars had arrived from Kuala Lumpur on Monday. Earlier that same day, Air Customs at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi apprehended three Kuwaiti nationals. The officials successfully recovered 4,001 grams of gold, equivalent to Rs. 2.06 crore.

The Delhi Customs department shared an update on the incident, stating, "Based on on-site profiling, the Customs team at IGIA has seized gold jewelry coated with silver, weighing 4001 grams and valued at 2.06 crore, being brought into the country by 3 Kuwaiti nationals." All three individuals have been taken into custody under the provisions of the Customs Act of 1962. The Delhi Customs further informed that a thorough investigation into the matter is presently in progress.
