Tata Advanced Systems Signs Major Contract for Armoured Vehicles with Morocco

Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) has officially signed a contract to manufacture Wheeled Armoured Platform (WhAP) combat vehicles for the Moroccan defense forces. This significant agreement marks a crucial step in expanding the company’s presence as a Defence Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) internationally.

In a post on X, Tata Advanced Systems announced, “Kingdom of Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces and Tata Advanced Systems sign deal for local production of Wheeled Armoured Platform. Developed in collaboration with the DRDO and Tata Motors, this marks a significant milestone as we expand our footprint overseas as a Defence OEM.”

Under this contract, the WhAP vehicles will be delivered to the Moroccan forces over three years, making it the largest deal for Indian-made armored vehicles both domestically and globally. Additionally, Indian paramilitary forces have also placed orders for this indigenous armored vehicle, highlighting its growing importance in the defense sector.

The WhAP has undergone extensive trials in Morocco over recent months to ensure its effectiveness in local operational environments. Throughout the supply period, manufacturers will work closely with teams from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to incorporate necessary upgrades to the vehicles.

Designed and developed in India, the WhAP is an amphibious wheeled combat vehicle that adheres to global design standards. It emphasizes modularity, scalability, and reconfigurability, allowing it to adapt to various military roles. The vehicle can navigate challenging terrains, including muddy or slushy conditions, and is built to withstand mine blasts. Different variants of the WhAP, including the Infantry Protected Mobility Vehicle (IPMV) and a paramilitary version, have already been introduced into the Indian Army and paramilitary forces.

This contract underscores Tata Advanced Systems' commitment to bolstering India's defense manufacturing capabilities and fostering strong international partnerships in the defense industry. With its advanced features and proven performance, the WhAP is set to become a vital asset for the Moroccan armed forces and a testament to India's expanding role in global defense manufacturing.
