Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the preparedness for Cyclone Tauktae in Gujarat. Other states like Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka and the Union territories of Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Havel were also reviewed. The Indian officials “specifically” stressed that all health facilities, including those for COVID-19 treatment, falling in the affected areas should be secured along with the patients. Shah advised to ensure adequate stocks of all essential medicines and supplies in the hospital. Keeping in view a likely disruption in the movement of all the essentials should be available at time, a statement issued by the Union home ministry said. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Saturday reviewed the preparedness of states, central ministries and agencies concerned to deal with the situation arising out of Cyclone Tauktae. Tauktae has now become a “very severe cyclonic storm" and is likely to intensify even further in the next 24 hours. Till now, major loss of life is not reported. At least six people have lost their lives, hundreds of houses were damaged, trees and electricity poles were uprooted in the coastal areas.
