Party worker commits self-immolation in front of BJP office

Hyderabad: A 24-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party worker in Telangana on Sunday committed self-immolation outside the party's state unit office against Bandi's party president Sanjay Kumar's recent detention. A senior police officer told the media that the person committed suicide by spraying diesel on himself, but some police personnel and locals immediately rescued him. Doctors said that the person's body has burnt more than 50 percent.

Reacting to the incident, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) acting president KT Rama Rao alleged that the BJP Dabak assembly seat (Dabak) was being conspired to cause nuisance in the state capital ahead of the proposed by-election on November 3. According to the state BJP president, the person tried "suicide" after being saddened by this, as the police had prevented him (Sanjay Kumar) from going to Siddipet town last week.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kishan Reddy and other party leaders visited the hospital and enquired about his health. In a video clip broadcast by some local channels, the man was seen allegedly chanting pro-BJP slogans and was heard saying that he was saddened by the recent arrest of Sanjay Kumar in custody.
