Telangana’s IT exports grow 26-pc to over Rs1.83 lakh crore in FY-22

HYDERABAD: Despite the Covid-19 pandemic and its negative economic impact, Telangana boosted its information technology exports by 26.14 percent and added approximately 1.50 lakh new employment in 2021-22, surpassing estimates.

During the year, the state's IT/ITeS exports totalled Rs 1,83,569 crore, compared to Rs 1,45,522 crore in 2020-21. Exports increased by 12.98 percent over the previous year. During the year 2021-2022, employment in the IT/ITeS industry expanded by 23.78 percent.

State Information Technology Minister K. T. Rama Rao announced on Wednesday that the IT/ITeS sector created 1,49,506 net new jobs, bringing the total number of employees to 7,78,121. He described the state's performance as "outstanding" throughout the year. Exports increased by 26.14 percent, compared to NASSCOM's prediction of 17.20 percent national growth. "Despite the second wave of the pandemic and widespread fears of job loss," he said, "this amazing performance was achieved."

While NASSCOM estimates that the sector will generate 4.50 lakh jobs throughout the country in 2021-22, Telangana alone contributed for 33.3 percent of national job growth.
