Indian tennis player Ramkumar Ramanathan has won his first Challenger singles title after 12 years of becoming a professional. World number 222 Ramkumar, 27, defeated Russia's Evgeni Karlovsky 6-1, 6-4 in a 1-hour 8-minute bout in the final of the ATP 80 Manama tournament. According to reports, this was Ramkumar's 7th challenger final. He also suffered a humiliating defeat in six earlier. Ramkumar defeated compatriot Arjun Khade in the semifinals in the doubles. Ramkumar scored 80 ranking points with the win. He is set to re-enter the top 200 in the rankings to be released on Monday. He can reach 186 places and become India's top player, beating Prajnesh Guneswaran (215) and Sumit Nagal (219).
