Central government blocked 7819 website pages and accounts in last 3 years

New Delhi: The Modi government of the Center has taken strict action against 7819 website links and social media accounts that spread lies and hate in the country. In response to a question raised in the Lok Sabha during the monsoon session of Parliament, the Central Government has made the House aware of the accounts blocked in the last three years.

Congress MP Ravneet Singh had questioned the Minister of Information Technology that social media platforms like Facebook are promoting violence and hate in society, what action has been taken against such social media accounts in the last three years? While giving an answer in writing to this question, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Sanjay Dhotre said that "With the increasing use of the internet, the reporting of materials which incite violence on social media platforms has increased. Due to this, the action of their users has also increased".

Sanjay Dhotre said that "A system exists under the framework of section 69 (a) of the IT Act-2000. Section 69A of the Act empowers the government to block related material to prevent incitement to commit any offence related to the sovereignty of the country, the security of the nation, friendly relations with foreign nations".
