The Mayor of the Philippines involved in the Duterte Narco List shot dead

On Monday, a Mayor, Antonio Halili, who was allegedly involved in a list linked to Narcotics of the President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, was shot dead by a sniper. Police said that during the weekly flag hoisting ceremony in Tanauan, located in the south of the Philippines capital Manila, someone shot him on their chest.

Hearing the sound of the bullet, there was a panic among the people present there. In response, a security guard of Halili started firing. However, he was declared dead in the hospital. The police could not catch the criminal and he managed to escape.  Tanauan city police chief Renato Mercado told AFP that the bullet was shot from a distance of 150 meters (490 feet). He said, "The distance to shoot was not normal, it can not be done by any ordinary person, it must have been done by an experienced shooter."

Halili, who is surrounded by controversies in 2017 his name came out in the Narco List released by Duterte. It was a list of those who were associated with Narcotics. After this, the control of police was withdrawn by Halili. Although Halili refused to have any kind of relationship with drugs.  Such continuous killings in the Philippines have again pulled the attention of the people towards themselves. Opposition Senator Francis Pangilinan said in a statement that this murder is the result of a campaign launched by the government so-called 'Drug War'.  The government said that about 4200 people have been killed so far in the campaign against drugs. They say that police and other people are killing people without any evidence in the name of fighting against drugs.  Three people and a mayor, who was involved in the Narcotics List, have also been killed earlier. Tunauan police chief Mercado said that the murder could also be related to allegations of illegal drugs. Duterte's spokesman Harry Rock has condemned the incident and called Halili as a progressive mayor.
