The cyclone from the Arabian Sea is intensifying, with the impact now visible in many places. The storm is expected to intensify to 160 kmph by May 17. The impact is beginning to show in the coastal areas of India. In Kerala, strong winds are also wreaking havoc with heavy rains, and two people have been reported killed in Anarkulam and Kozhikode in Kerala due to the storm. About 2,000 people have been shifted to 71 camps in the state.

Kerala recorded an average rainfall of 145.5 mm on Saturday. State CM Pinarayi Vijayan quoted the India Meteorological Ministry as saying that the energy and agriculture sector suffered heavy losses due to the storm. The storm has moved towards Goa, Mumbai, Lakshadweep and Tamil Nadu and these areas are receiving heavy rainfall.

Rain is expected to intensify further in coastal areas like Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat in the next 48 hours, which may lead to heavy losses in these areas. The fishermen have been asked not to go into the sea. IMD predictthat the Storm Toukte may touch The Coastal Areas of Gujarat, Porbandar and Nalia by the evening of May 18, meanwhile, gusty winds of 175 kmph are expected. Heavy rain has also been predicted in many parts of Gujarat due to the storm. IMD has warned that the storm could submerge coastal areas of Morbi, Kutch, Devbhoomi Dwarka and Jamnagar districts.
