New Delhi: This is going to be the first time in the history of independent India that the main Left party CPI (M) will hoist the national flag at its headquarters and offices on the occasion of Independence Day (August 15). The party has decided to hoist the tricolor at party offices other than the headquarters at Alimuddin Street in Kolkata on the 75th anniversary of independence. Left Front leader and MLA Sujan Chakraborty had sent a proposal to the high command in this regard. The party high command has sealed it. He said that on this occasion, CPI (M) will organize various programs throughout the year and celebrate the 75th anniversary of Independence with great fanfare. The party high command is raising the reason behind the recent bad setback in West Bengal and seeking suggestions from leaders. The Left parties and their coalition partners, who were in power till 2011, did not get a single seat in this year's assembly elections. Former Union Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale in his book 'The Long Game: How the Chinese Negotiate with India' explains how China has been using its close elements in the left parties to form its "domestic opposition" in India. In 2007-08, China made this move to halt the Indo-US nuclear deal. At that time, many Left leaders used to travel to China on the pretext of treatment. Even after independence in 1947, CPI never accepted it and senior party leader Bt Ranadive said in a statement, "This freedom is false."
