However, on 30th of July, the Delhi government had cut the rate of diesel by Rs 8.36, due to which the rate of diesel in Delhi was reduced to Rs 73.56 per liter in the market. The price of petrol in Delhi today is Rs 80.43 per liter. The price of diesel is Rs 73.56 per liter. According to information received from IOCL website, the price of one liter of petrol in Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai is 82.05, 87.19 and 83.63 per liter respectively. Talking about diesel, its rates in these metros are 77.06, 80.11 and 78.86 respectively. There is a change in the price of petrol and diesel every day at 6 am. The new rates are applicable from 6 am. After adding excise duty, dealer commission and other things to the rates of petrol and diesel, its rate almost doubles. Petrol and diesel prices change every day depending on what the crude rates are in the international market along with foreign exchange rates. Based on these standards, the oil companies do the work of fixing the petrol price and diesel price daily. However, the dealers are the people running the petrol pumps. They sell petrol at retail prices after adding taxes and their own margins to the last of the consumers. This cost is also added to the petrol price and diesel price.
