MUMBAI: In a veiled warning to Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said on Saturday that if he (Shinde) spoke there would be an "earthquake". In fact, questioning Thackeray's decision to join hands with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Congress, Shinde said, "He knows what happened to late Shiv Sena leader Anand Dighe." With this, he said, referring to Anand Dighe, "I am a witness to what happened to 'Dharmaveer'."
You all must be aware that Shinde's political guru Dighe died in 2002 after a road accident. In fact, Thackeray resigned from the post of Chief Minister in June after most of the Shiv Sena MLAs revolted under Shinde's leadership. At the same time, the Chief Minister said at a rally in Malegaon, "He rebelled to save the legacy of Balasaheb Thackeray. If I start giving interviews, there will be an earthquake...Unlike some people, I do not travel abroad every year for vacations.'' Elder grandson Nihar Thackeray has supported him (Shinde). Apart from this, he said, 'The rebel MLAs are being called traitors.'
In fact, he asked, "What would you say to those who have compromised with Balasaheb's ideology just to become the Chief Minister. Formed the government with the support of NCP. Isn't this a betrayal?" The chief minister also claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Shiv Sena faction led by him would win 200 of the 288 seats in the next assembly elections.
