The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), is launching a six-day capacity-building program under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) initiative. This program, running from November 11 to November 16, 2024, will host senior officials from National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) representing eight countries: Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Jordan. This customized program is specifically designed for NHRI officials from the Global South, aiming to enhance knowledge and practices around human rights protection and promotion in diverse regions. Participants will gain insights from NHRC India's extensive experience, reflecting India’s commitment to human rights rooted in empathy and compassion. The program will include a series of technical sessions focused on key human rights issues. Topics will cover NHRC's complaint management system, investigation methods, emerging global human rights challenges, and the impact of business, technology, and sustainable development on human rights. The speakers at the event include prominent Indian experts in human rights and governance, such as former NHRC members Justice MM Kumar, Dnyaneshwar M Mulay, and Rajiv Jain, along with NHRC Secretary General Bharat Lal, former Ambassador to the UN Asoke Kumar Mukerji, UN Resident Coordinator Shombi Sharp, and other notable leaders. This initiative aligns with NHRC's ongoing efforts to promote human rights knowledge globally, with similar programs held in the past, including a 2023 capacity-building event for the Maldives Human Rights Commission.
