Filmmaker Karan Johar when announced the birth of twins through surrogacy, pleasantly surprised everyone. He took to Twitter and tweeted, "I am ecstatic to share with you all the two most wonderful additions to my life, my children and lifelines; Roohi and Yash. I feel enormously blessed to be a parent to these pieces of my heart who were welcomed into this world with the help of the marvels of medical science." The filmmaker added, "I am eternally grateful to the surrogate who has fulfilled my lifelong dream and provided a warm, loving, and nurturing environment to my children before bringing them into this world. She will always remain in my prayers." During interview with Barkha Dutt at Town Hall, he said, "Adoption is not legal for single fathers, so surrogacy was my only choice." How are Yash and Roohi doing? To this, he said, "They do a lot of sleeping & I do a lot of staring." He added, "My life is my decision, only my mother's opinion matters."
