Ban on entry of devotees in Thrissur Pooram amid rising corona cases

In the wake of the daily growing covid cases in Kerala, the Kerala government has announced that the popular Thrissur Pooram Festival is scheduled to be held on April 23 with stringent restrictions. District Collector S. Shanavas confirmed that the general public is not going to be allowed to enter any annual temple festival this year as such festivals usually attract huge crowds from across the state as well as from across the country. He said only festival organizers and media staff are going to be allowed to enter. Provided they are going to have a negative test report of covid and a certificate taking both doses of covid vaccine. It is learnt that in 2020 also, due to the Corona epidemic, Thrissur Pooram was supposed to be organized with fewer rituals and the general public was banned from participating in the event.

More than 20 lakh people are involved every year: Janha It has been revealed that Thrissur Pooram is the largest Hindu festival to be held every year in Kerala and at least 20 lakh people from different districts join. Kerala Health Minister KK Selja said that the event of Thrissur Pooram is not going to be cancelled. Because for which a lot of preparations have been made. Guidelines have been issued for organizing Thrissur Pooram.

In a meeting convened by the Chief Secretary on Monday, it was decided that the public is not going to be allowed to participate in the festival. Only the organizers will be allowed and they must follow the covid rules. The chief organiser of Theruvambari and Puram of Paremakkevu temple had earlier said that Puram should be held in full. However, he agreed to the government's decision to impose sanctions.

13,644 new corona cases in Kerala: Kerala has reported 13,644 new cases of covid virus infection on Monday, after which the active case figure in the state has crossed one lakh.
