Tibetan Youth Cong calls for a boycott of 2022 Beijing Olympics

BENGALURU: The Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (RTYC) has organised a bike march from Bengaluru to New Delhi to protest Chinese aggression and demand for a boycott of the 2022 Beijing Olympics. On the occasion of World Human Rights Day, the bike rally will begin on Friday.

The bike rally's goal is to draw public attention to China's egregious human rights violations in Tibet and East Turkestan (Xinjiang), both of which are under Chinese rule.

"We call on and appeal to everyone's basic human conscience to boycott the Beijing Olympics 2022 in solidarity with the people of Tibet, Xinjiang, South Mongolia, and Hong Kong who are victims of Chinese tyranny and oppression," RTYC president Tsering Chomphel said.

Though sport should ideally be kept separate from politics in normal times, he stated that Chinese atrocities against Tibetan and Uyghur people in the form of increased police custody deaths, tortures, forced sterilisation, forced disappearance, genocide, and the operation of mass concentration camps raise fundamental questions about humanity's basic tenets.
