Tamil Nadu elections: DM and SP of Tiruchirappalli removed from election duty, know why

New Delhi: The Election Commission has transferred the Collector, Sub Collector, and Superintendent of Police of Tiruchirappalli district on Thursday. This decision of the Election Commission has been taken a day after the recovery of Rs 1 crore from the district. ECI Secretary Malay Malik issued a statement saying that on March 24, he transferred the officers after receiving large amounts of cash in the district.

They have been deployed for work other than elections, while new officers have been posted in their place. According to a Tiruchirapalli official, cash was recovered from a roadside bag, which was picked up by the Election Flying Squad. According to reports, the cash was recovered when the team was chasing a suspicious car. These people were standing on the road and talking about money, after which the police got an inkling of it and fled from there.

A day after the case, the Election Commission has given the Coimbatore District Collector and City Commissioner of Police separate responsibilities from the elections. DMK's legal team had complained to the Election Commission about the disturbances.
