TN govt lifts Covid-19 restrictions, save for weddings and funerals

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government stated on Wednesday that Covid-related restrictions on social, cultural, and political gatherings will be lifted, while increasing in the number of people attending weddings and funerals.

According to a statement released here, due to a decrease in the number of Covid-19 infections in the state, prohibitions on social, cultural, and political gatherings will be lifted starting Thursday.

Weddings with a maximum of 500 people can be held from March 3 to March 31, while funerals with a maximum of 250 people can be held from March 3 to March 31.

People should, however, continue to use Covid preventative measures like wearing masks and maintaining social distance, as well as get vaccinated. Weddings were previously limited to 200 guests, while death-related rituals were limited to 100. The administration also authorised nursery schools to resume after a two-year hiatus last month. Face masks are not required for kindergarten students, the administration ordered.
