PM Modi will talk to economists over Corona affected economy today

New Delhi: PM Modi will discuss the upcoming general budget today with leading economists and experts from various fields. This virtual meeting is organized by NITI Aayog. The meeting will discuss the measures that could be encouraged to include the budget by increasing the uncertainty on several fronts due to the Corona epidemic.

The meeting will also include Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur, NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Rajiv Kumar and NITI Aayog Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Amitabh Kant. The meeting will also include top economists and experts like Arvind Panagariya, KV Kamat, Rakesh Mohan, Shankar Acharya, Shekhar Shah, Arvind Virmani and Ashok Lahiri. A government official has said on condition of anonymity that PM Modi will hold a meeting with economists on Friday and will consider the next budget from them. The general budget is expected to be presented on February 1, 2021.

As a result of the deep impact of the Corona epidemic, the country's economy is projected to decline by 7.7% in the current financial year 2020-21). It registered a 4.2% increase in the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2019-20 last year. The economy is projected to decline mainly due to poor performance of manufacturing and services sector.
